Blessings come in disguise.
When you feel that life just can’t get any worse you ask yourself where do I go from here?
Starting over in life can be difficult, whether it’s a new job, marriage, trust and even our health.
Before you can fix something, you need to know what causes it to break in the first place.
You can’t heal an overwhelmed situation by simply getting rid of the symptom.
If you want to let go of the feeling of being overwhelmed, you must fix the cause.
- Reflect on the “why”
- Accept your feelings
- Practice mindfulness
- Try breathing exercises
- Focus on what you can control
- Take breaks
- Do what you enjoy
- Receive physical touch
- Speak with a therapist
What causes overwhelm?
There are so many causes of stress and overwhelm, some of which include:
- Work responsibilities
- Relationship stressors
- Traumatic experiences
- Financial worries
- Political issues
- Environmental warnings
- Health concerns
- Living in a global pandemic
Finding the root of the problem is sometimes tricky, you may not always necessarily know where this feeling is coming from.
Many individuals have underlying issues that make it challenging for them to distinguish.
Emotional regulation can be extra challenging for highly sensitive people and many people living with mental health conditions, such as;
- ADHD
- PTSD
- Anxiety disorders
- Autism
- Mood disorders
How does feeling overwhelmed affect your health?
Stress increases blood sugar and can make diabetes worse.
It can create high blood pressure and cause insomnia.
It can also make people become anxious, worried, depressed, or frustrated.
Chronic stress also increases the risk of heart disease, heartburn, and many other health problems.
Symptoms of stress can take many forms.
Virtually any form of physical activity can act as a stress reliever.
Even if you’re not an athlete or you’re out of shape, exercise can still be a good stress reliever.
Physical activity can pump up your feel-good endorphins and other natural neural chemicals that enhance your sense of well-being.
Exercise can also refocus your mind.
Going through these motions daily can start rebuilding a positive repetition and start leading you in the right direction.
We all endure stress and we all will go through some change in life that will have us feeling overwhelmed, it truly is mind over matter in my own opinion.
I have endured many stressors and I wish I remained calm and took care of myself during the storms.
Sometimes we need to just take a break, weather that break is 5 minutes a day to a few months away from the negativity.
It all works out in the end.
