It lies within yourself. We tend to try and achieve the “When I get there I will be…. Happy.”
“When I get that house I will be….Happy.”
The ring, the wedding and the perfect family 1 boy & 1 girl will make me happy.
“When I win the lotto, That will make me so happy!”
What happens when we reach happiness and we achieve all our wants and dreams we dreamt for?
We plateau, and we keep on wishing for more.
Happiness is a temporary feeling.
Happiness is a byproduct of certain actions, it’s temporary because everything is in a state of change, we gain and we lose.
You have to change with it, as we change in life we feel happiness at different milestones, happiness is a temporary state, it is no longer permanent!
Happiness comes and goes.
Being HAPPY brings us smiles, laughter and even a feeling of euphoria.
However, having “temporary” happiness is not necessarily a bad thing.
Think of examples such as; being happy when you ate at your favorite restaurant, but later that night you got food poisoning.
Will you be happy to go back to that restaurant any time soon?
How about a high; such as alcohol, substance abuse or sexual arousal.
We tend to mistake these feelings of happiness and we don’t realize it’s the pleasure of our actions that are resulting in the temporary feeling of being happy.
This kind of temporary, purely physical pleasure can be found in pills, drinks or substances to smoke, inject and serve at parties as a substitute for happiness.
It can stimulate brain cells and reward centers, excite emotions, and offer moments of artificial joy and ecstasy.
While causing an immediately pleasant effect, usually has the long-term consequence of creating mental deterioration, emotional instability and dysfunctionality, with ultimately tragic results.
That temporary, false happiness can cause addiction, diminishment of judgment and cognition, and ultimately the death of the soul or the body.
So, let’s focus on the joy of life instead of temporary happiness.
Joy is boundless because it’s not reliant on external circumstances that can change at any time.
It lies within us and there is no limit to what lies within us.
Joy is the certainty within us that at any minute we can choose it over anything else.
We access Joy when we recognize the tremendous capacity within ourselves to overcome what we thought was not possible.
Joy is appreciating what you do have, no matter how little it is.
How do we go about experiencing deep, boundless joy as a dominant state of being?
- Recognize that joy is a choice.
- Take full responsibility for what is happening in your life.
- Choose to see the silver lining even in the darkest storm.
- Practice mindfulness — which means becoming aware of your thoughts.
- Re-Write the scripts. Words have tremendous power. Re-write your inner dialogue. It does not mean not recognizing difficult situations. What it does mean is that you are choosing an empowering thought over a disempowering one.
- Get into nature. Nature is a nature healer
